the user base of tumblr is a specific demographic of people who were ‘the smart kid’ growing up but didn’t do as well academically as they got older due to mental health struggles, were probably bullied in school and were quite lonely & introverted so they took solace in reading but now rarely pick up a book, grew up on tumblr but continued using it into adulthood unlike most of their peers who stopped using it after it lost popularity

some friends of mine have the most un-cat-ish cat i have ever met

my quintessential example of this:

i was holding him in my arms petting him while we were picking out what games to play that night. when we’d decided on a few, i needed to put the cat down in order to, you know, carry boxes. so i started letting him down, expecting that he’d eventually do the cat hop thing… but he never did.

i ended up lowering him all the way to the floor. and even then he never got his feet under him. i just sort of… plopped him down on his side as he stared up at me like a betrayed sack of flour.

thecheshirecass

I saw this so clearly in my mind and I’m never going to stop laughing at betrayed sack of flour.

tisfan

reblogging for betrayed sack of flour.

history fucked me up

oxford was built and operational as a college before the rise of the mayans and cleopatra lived in a time nearer to pizza hut’s invention than to the pyramids being built

anotherjadedwriter

I need a noncomprehensive history book that covers Known World History in time periods, like “in this century, all this shit was happening concurrently” and not just all spread out so I have to piece it together like some unpaid uneducated scholar

Mongols were fighting Samurai in Japan and Knights in Europe at the same time.

Star Wars a New Hope came out the same year as the last execution in France by Guillotine.

Abraham Lincoln and Edgar Allen Poe were friends in their early 20′s.

When the Great Pyramids were being built there were areas that still had Woolly Mammoths roaming.

Harvard University didn’t teach calculus in its first few years after being established because calculus wasn’t invented yet.

This is the book you want: The Timetables of History - going year by year (or in the earlier sections, at least century by century) and showing you what was going on in various parts of the world in several categories (e.g. Politics, Literature, Science, etc.)  Super useful for visualizing what events were happening at the same time.

Martin Luther King Jr. was six months older than Anne Frank. Both would have turned 90 this year.

We had The Timetables of History as a family reference on our dining room bookshelf (to aid with dinner discussion questions), and I loved it…. but that was four decades ago.

It might be time for a new edition.

Concept: We Didn’t Start the Fire, but instead it’s listing everything millennials have supposedly killed

oystersaintforme

diamond rings, outlet malls, eating breakfast cereal
hooters, applebee’s, eating sliced american cheese
mayonnaise, DUIs, running as an exercise
golfing, productivity, marriage, and democracy

we didn’t kill the culture
it’s been dead since birth, that’s just life on earth
we didn’t kill the culture
you don’t have to believe us, it’ll still outlive us

gehayi

Real estate, relationships, marriage-spawned vacation trips,

It’s a fact–Airbnb has killed the hotel industry

Costco, beer, and cash; fabric softener now is bashed,

Napkins, stiletto heels, breastaurants and luncheon meals.

You didn’t kill the culture

It’s been dead for ages, ignore elders’ rages

You didn’t kill the culture

That same accusation hit my generation

things glee definitely would’ve done

-a full episode on love simon

-a la la land episode

-a lemonade episode where someone gets cheated on and goes through the entire album

-a cover of work by rihanna

-an episode where everyone reveals whether they prefer trump or hilary

-a prince tribute

-a george michael tribute

-a full kpop episode where they cover a bts song or a twice song

medusabraids

-a megan thee stallion inspired episode

-a mashup of truth hurts and a taylor swift song

-someone would ‘drag’ rihanna for not releasing music

-definitely a hamilton episode

-one of the many couples in that show would sing senorita (the shawn mendes and camilla version)

-an old town road cover

this is giving me nightmares

we-thelovelybadones22

The nightmares are real😂

I cry for the girl who wanted the world and woke up one day in her personal hell.

I cry for the girl who loved so hard only to get the door in the end.

I cry for the girl who trusted so much even when she felt the truth beyond denial.

I cry for the girl who still has nightmares and random flashbacks of the day her world fell apart at the seams.

I cry for the girl who was betrayed, time and time and time again.

I cry for the girl who was too kind to turn him away when he wanted her.

I cry for the girl who loves again, but is still very tortured.

I cry for the girl who doesn’t know who to turn to for permission to let him go, even though she sees her in the mirror.
